Description

The old convent of St. Francis, built around 1660, has been home to the Civic Museum ‘Antonino Olmo’ since 1970 and since 1973 to the Gipsoteca named after Davide Calandra. The classic monastic structure first belonged to the Franciscan monks and then to the friars of the Minori Osservanti until 1867 and today still has an enclosed quadrangular cloister. The deconsecrated church provides a stunning setting for the collection of plaster busts by the sculptor Davide Calandra, who was from Savigliano. The civic museum ‘Antonino Olmo’ is located in the rooms of the convent, and displays interesting exhibits of paintings and artworks from the area.
