The common objective here is to link sport to quality of life; sport and education for the young; sport to connect different generations and finally sport for social and human integration. Everyone has ascertained over time that sport, regularly practiced, not only has an effect on the physical development of young people, but is also character building and promotes social values.

Savigliano is universally recognised as having excellent sports facilities. This has contributed to the presence of numerous sports clubs and associations in the area. This fact, besides having a strong impact on sport also has remarkable social importance, since the majority of sporting activities in Savigliano are aimed at the youth category of the various disciplines.

In recognition of their efforts to promote sport the Town of Savigliano was awarded the title “European Town of Sport” in 2012 by the European Capitals of Sport Federation (ACES Europe), which views sport as a contributing factor in social aggregation and the improvement in the quality of life for both young and old.

Savigliano can count on the energy of over 30 sports clubs/associations that include the most diverse disciplines (football, volleyball, basketball, athletics, tennis and table tennis, artistic gymnastics, martial arts, boxing, cycling, bocce, swimming, fitness, fit-walking and Nordic walking, golf…..), on promotional activities for the young and the elderly, specialised projects for the disabled and numerous leisure activities. The various activities and sports disciplines are carried out at both an amateur and competitive level.

The local sports clubs and associations organise and plan numerous activities during the year that range from normal championships in each category (football, volleyball, basketball) to competitions at a regional and/ or national level (athletics, artistic gymnastics, bocce, …). Moreover there are annual tournaments and meetings which principally involve school-age children, and are not only simple sports competitions but provide an opportunity for social aggregation.

Non-competitive fun run around the town for charity, open to a target group that includes athletes, families, children and the elderly.

Local sports clubs and more “set up in the square” to showcase the activities of the many sports clubs/associations that work in the area and at the same time allow people, but especially children, to try out different sports in a fun and entertaining way.

Different sports tournaments organised in collaboration with Educativa di Strada for children and teenagers.

The town of Savigliano has also hosted stages of the GIRO D’ITALIA (Tour of Italy cycling race), as well as the start of the Giro ciclistico delle Valli Cuneesi nelle Alpi del Mare.

It is also worth highlighting the type of landscape in the Savigliano area: flat yet not distant from the mountains and the sea. Its geographic position means that sport can be pleasantly combined with discovering nature, the area and its artistic and cultural heritage. Besides traditional sports such as football, basketball, volleyball and fitness a large part of the population are involved in sports activities such as martial arts, tennis and table-tennis, cycling, swimming, fit-walking and Nordic walking, athletics, dance etc. but also enjoy simply walking along the numerous paths in the parks and public gardens, as well as the path along the Maira.
