THE GALVAGNO FAMILY

Descrizione

This family is not an old family from Marene by birth. The brothers Giovanni, Francesco and Giacomo Galvagno settled here between 1736 and 1738.
The family always distinguished itself for their generosity: on numerous occasions they took on the needs of the parish and the nursery, made donations or bequests to provide assistance and helped the many poor in the town.
Having purchased several farms in the area, creating an important patrimony, the Galvagno family worked at intensive farming and the sale of wheat, which through the famine caused by the wars had reached high prices.
In the history of Marene, members of the Galvagno family are often noted for their contribution to the civic and political life of the town. The elderly still remember the engineer Luigi Galvagno, mayor in the period between the two world wars, who ran the council with great commitment and whose name is linked to important public works.
Like the building belonging to the Gallina family, the palazzo Galvagno contributes to enriching the architecture of the town centre.
